Happy New Year! Welcome 2017!

Today’s the day and I cannot believe it; 2016 has come and gone! Yes, the year has been full of troubles and turmoil. We have lost many celebrities, many loved ones, and I know my family has had some exceptional stress. However, as we do, we must bid a polite farewell as time passes on, even to a year that many will say sucked.

I look forward to what 2017 brings us. I know I said in my Writing Den Youtube video that I think this new year is going to be a great one, and I truly mean it. I feel like the currents of the Universe are going to shift; people will be more pleasant, troubles will be solved, and dreams will come true.

So for this 2017, my resolution is simple: to keep on moving on.

My writing den is complete, minus a few things here and there I still need to do, and I’m nearing completion on my novel and I’ll Be. Bonus, I’m also excited to begin working on some new projects too; some writings, other Youtube video ideas, etc. That’s the thing about a new year: anything is possible! For a moment, the slate is wiped clean and we can start anew. Even when the responsibilities of 2016 roll into the new year with us, we still have a renewed energy that encourages us to keep persevering.

I really can feel it! For me, 2017 is going to be the year of great accomplishment! We’ve laid down the ground work in 2016, now comes the celebrating!

I truly wish you all a great new year. I hope it’s full of positivity, inspiration, and, just simply, puts a smile on all your faces! Keep on moving and the world will move with you!

See you in the new year, all! Party safely, but have fun!

-Katie L. Mortimer.

It’s Wednesday, Sammy!

…well, okay, Wednesday night. (12AM still counts, right?)

Happy March, guys and dolls! I will tell you: it’s been a wild couple of months here at the Mortimer house thus far in 2016! Not everything has been smooth sailing; it’s certainly been busy at times, even when getting to my computer (hence my two weeks of hiatus last month). However, like in Supernatural’s Mystery Spot, it seems like I’ve finally jumped out of a Groundhog’s Day time loop and am back in action!

Last week, I redesigned my social outlets; my focus being a new author bio,

“Hi there! My name’s Katie L. Mortimer. Welcome to my website!
I’m a pro-author-in-progress who has always had a passion for storytelling, whatever form that may come in. I’m a third generation movie geek and an active cultural explorer. Professionally, I’m a graduate of Otterbein University (with a B.A. in Creative Writing) and I’ve been published in Fangirlish.com, Wooster Weekly News, and Otterbein University’s Fall 2011 Quiz and Quill literary magazine.
Some of my favorite tales (or “fandoms”) range from Welcome to Night Vale, Supernatural, and The Walking Dead to Castle, Lord of the Rings, Marvel, and The Ghost and Mrs. Muir. I have a fairly successful Transformers fanfic out, entitled “All That We Need In Our Lives” and am currently completing my first YA novel, The Moonlit Path.
I’m always looking for new ways to create; and to help others with their own imaginings. So take a look around, geek out with me, and subscribe to my blog to keep up to date with my misadventures! Thanks for stopping by!”

BONUS: My website  Subscribe button and Tumblr ask link are actually visible! (Yes, ladies and gents, that’s what started it all! Yay!)

This week, I’ve been hard at work on my novel and keeping up my social media promotions. I released my newest Media Mondays episode about the Oscars:

In short, I talk about the themes that presented themselves at the Academy Awards this past Sunday: diversity, awareness, and making a difference. Every actor, writer, singer, director–even The Academy President–had something to say about a controversial issue; whether it was rape victims in a collegiate setting or being more aware about climate change. I agreed with most of these issues: it a good thing to reevaluate ourselves and change, for the better. So let’s start! Let’s be our best selves!

I also mentioned TV shows that were airing their finales (Agent Carter and Downton Abbey) and premieres (Gotham, OUAT, and Quantico) this week. Man, it’s a shifty one!

I’m definitely aiming to keep my Media Mondays, blog posts, and fanfic releases out on time. Life is still challenging, but I’m pleased to have time to work on the things I love to do. I hope you guys and gals are enjoying what I’m putting out there; there’s sure to be more content to come!

As per usual, however, I’m most excited for you all to read my novel series, which is the priority in my crafting. God, I’m so proud of it.

Have a great week guys! I’ll catch you later!

Deadpool Partay + Castle RETURNS!

Earlier this evening I watched the Super Bowl Halftime with my family. OMG, being a long-time Coldplay fan, it was plain spectacular! The band (with Beyonce and Bruno Mars) did a phenomenal performance that was also aesthetically pleasing. Hey, I mean, that’s what I expect from one of my favorite musicians; their concerts are always so… just… awesome. And the Super Bowl gave every audience member, near and far, that sense.

This week on Promos & Trailers (P&T) is another week where things are just continuing, TV show wise–EXCEPT Castle will be back on Mondays at 10P (ET)! I’m also excited to see the movies that premiere this Valentine’s Day weekend. I mean, come on guys: Deadpool is the ultimate date movie (*wink*)

Movies:

Deadpool
Honestly, I don’t know much about Deadpool canon, beyond random posts on Tumblr with him hanging with Spidey and outwitting bad guys in an extremely sarcastic nature. However, it was love at first sight. And I am definitely headed to this movie this weekend. Plus, he’s Marvel. And I will always go to a new Marvel movie. Always.

Genre: Action-Adventure
Rating: R
Director: Tim Miller
Cast: Ryan Reynolds, Gina Carano, Morena Baccarin, T.J. Miller, Ed Skrein
Plot: Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds) is a former Special Forces operative who now works as a mercenary. His world comes crashing down when the evil Ajax (Ed Skrein) tortures, disfigures and transforms him into Deadpool. The rogue experiment leaves Deadpool with accelerated healing powers and a twisted sense of humor. With help from mutant allies Negasonic Teenage Warhead (Brianna Hildebrand) and Colossus (Stefan Kapicic), Deadpool uses his new skills to hunt down the man who nearly destroyed his life.

Zoolander 2
Oh lord. I was practically raised on Zoolander so there’s no doubt in my mind: I’m going. I have to visit my lifelong friends: Derek Zoolander and Hansel. (Hansel’s my faaaave…*hugs*) Bonus points: Ben Stiller directed Zoolander 2. Ever since I watched Secret Life of Walter Mitty (one of my favorite movies of all time that he directed), I will always go see a Ben Stiller-directed movie.

Genre: Comedy
Rating: PG-13
Director: Ben Stiller
Cast: Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson, Penelope Cruz, Will Ferrell, Kristen Wiig.
Plot: Models Derek Zoolander (Ben Stiller) and Hansel (Owen Wilson) must stop a conspiracy to kill the world’s most beautiful people.

Downton Abbey @9P – PBS (ET)
Well, good news, friends, is that Lord Grantham is alive and well! Yes, we’re still on the drama train (as with every Downton episode) but at least he didn’t die. That, absolutely, would’ve been crushing. Hope he’s out of the clear. Also I’m beginning to feel sympathy for Barrow… which is… understandable… but weird.

Mercy Street @ 10P – PBS(ET)
Now this is a show I haven’t mentioned before but is due for a recommendation. Mom and I have been watching it for a few weeks now and each time it keeps getting better and better. For any of you history buffs out there who love Civil War era (especially Union vs Confederate drama with some slavery themes mixed in), it’s definitely a good show to check out. Also it’s based off of actual events and diary accounts of what went on inside this Union hospital.

CASTLE!!! @10P – ABC (ET)
Ahhhh! You guys! Castle is finally back! This is the TV show I am most excited about this week. I always love watching what new antics Caskett gets into (especially Rick since I aim to have a similar writing career as him–that and we’re personality twins). But OMG Castle fans! I’m so excited to see our beloved couple back together again! AHH!

Supernatural @ 9P – CW (ET)
I mean, yeah, let’s face it guys and dolls, I’m a Hunter through and through. So Supernatural’s going to be on each Promos & Trailers post. I look forward to it every week. This week’s promo cracks me up though. Things are getting pretty hot and heavy for the boys this Valentine’s day (*wink*)

Criminal Minds @ 9P (ET) – CBS

Whoa… just whoa… so I just came across this article when looking into 11×14’s “Hostage.” Apparently the BAU hunts down a man who is kidnapping little girls, and the episode itself is based off of the kidnappings that took place in Cleveland — it especially reflects the story of Amanda Berry and Ariel Castro. Well, I mean, the episodes of Criminal Minds are all based on true stories, in some form or another, so it’s no wonder this story was going to come up. Just… wow though. I mean, that case was all the news stations here in Northeast Ohio. So I’m curious to see how the story compares, and how this episode is. Kids in horror stories are creepy as hell.

SPN 11×10 Promo: “The Devil in the Details”

It’s a new year; new chances, new changes, new adventures in blogging… and an all new Supernatural tonight! Ahh! I’m so excited!

First of all, I love the show to death (and always will). Second, at the expense of Sam’s mental trauma, I am truly delighted to see Mark Pellegrino continue to play Lucifer in a second episode. He is so good as Lucifer. Just–ahh–too good, even considering his character’s alignment. (Tee-hee)

So catch the promo here:

This episode looks like it’ll center on Sam’s escape from Luci’s clutches. Dean might beat up Crowley, too, for letting his little bro get sidelined by the Devil… again. Only one question sits in my mind as I prep for tonight’s new episode: “Will Luci be a second Big Bad for season 11 or will Dean get Amara’s help in defeating the Devil (she certainly seems powerful enough to kill him)?”

What are your thoughts about this mid-season return of the Devil? What are your predictions, Hunters? Comment below to discuss!

Sidenote: Yup! I’m planning on doing more promos and reviews in the future, on various shows and movies, so this post is just the beginning! I’ve also just premiered Media Mondays (a new Youtube series discussing pop culture news and premieres) over on my Youtube channel, check out the video and comment below!

SUPERNATURAL IS BACK BABY!

Guys! Guys! It’s here! Oh my Chuck, IT. IS. HERE!!

Supernatural’s 11th season premiered last Wednesday — and, boy, is the show as rocking as ever!

I mean, I will admit since season 5 the show hasn’t held me like it did. Even if there were some pretty intense moments. However, season 11 looks like it may be going back to the old routes: a massively scary boss that seems impossible to beat, Sam and Dean reevaluating their tactics (and actually talking!), Team Free Will pushed to the edge, the world at risk.

Yes we’ve had those themes before. But, frankly, the Leviathan and Purgatory arcs didn’t hold my attention quite like Lucifer. (Me, the angel fangirl. Of course that would be my favorite season!)

I’m looking forward to what they’ll be doing. [Slight spoiler] but they’ve been referencing the archangels here and there, both in 10’s finale and 11’s premiere. Dare I say it? We might be seeing Gabe, Luci, and Michael again! Maybe they’ll be in multiple episodes? Maybe Adam will finally escape The Cage?

Ok. That’s a spoiler-free as I can make this post. It’s a quickie, too.

I’m excited to see what the show does this season. There’s a lot at stake for Team Free Will. Even in the first episode was it intense. Jeeez. *bites nails*

Weekend Recap: Goodbye Snow and Hello Spring!

Here’s a shocking thing: Yesterday (March 20th) was the first day of Spring.

Giphy.com

Am I the only one who didn’t realize this? Probably. With my luck.

Hah. I went in to work yesterday and one of the managers asked if I worked today. “No, I work on Saturday.” I responded. “Tomorrow is Saturday.”

Oops.

Yeah, yesterday was DEFINITELY one of those days.

This week has been an eventful one. I continued working on my novel and have my sights set on a couple of contests/journals I’m going to enter in the next couple of months.

This week I’m working on two stories: a Flash Fiction (a story under 1,000 words) and a “Fairy Tale Retelling”. I’m extending a short piece I wrote a couple of years ago for the Flash Fiction, and rewriting a Persephone story I wrote a while back for my mythology class at Otterbein.

I’ll post both of them on here, whether or not they get accepted. (But hopefully they do)

So far, I’m keeping up to my social media schedule, too. I revised it a bit, though, putting Supernatural posts on Wednesdays with Youtube (instead of Tuesdays).

Next thing to do is start posting my new Transformers and Morty’s Stories chapters. I hope you guys enjoy it!

Recap: James Jones, Deer, and Supernatural —

oh-my-takei

Ohhh this weekend has been — well, it wasn’t the worst. It was just busy! (Hence why I’m doing my weekend recap today) I was trying to get the first 50 pages of my manuscript edited for the James Jones Fellowship (that offers $10,000 to 1st prize) deadline on March 15th… all in the midst of a busy retail weekend.

It’s not surprising that I didn’t get it done.

HOWEVER — oh OF COURSE it’s raining. Hold on, I need to get my dogs in.

*insert 10 minutes of elevator music*

— Anyways, what was I saying? Or right. *clears throat*

HOWEVER, I did do a lot of work on my manuscript that DESPERATELY needed done. Probably the main reason of my slow editing: I’ve decided to change my 3rd person POV to 1st person.

Example: changing

“Angel went for a walk in the woods and saw two squirrels dancing around a tree”

to

“I decided to go for a walk in the woods today. It was a sunny, warm December morning and I hadn’t been out for a few days now — not since school let out and my finals were done. I laughed as two squirrels skipped around me and danced up a tree. I was perfectly content.”

It just FEELS so much better to change POVs. That and it’s popular in YA fiction right now so…

That was the main event of the past week. I’ve churned out a new blog post, two Fangirlish articles and a YouTube video in the midst of all of that writing. I’d say I’m baaaack! Hah. I absolutely love (and have missed) my craft!

Check out the articles and video below:
