NaNoWriMo HAS BEGUN!

“You write. That’s the hard bit that nobody sees. You write on the good days and you write on the lousy days. Like a shark, you have to keep moving forward or you die… What matters right now are the words, one after another. Find the next word. Write it down. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat.”
– NaNoWriMo’s Pep Talk from Neil Gaiman.

It’s here, writers! NaNoWriMo is here!

It’s the time of the year where we focus our creative energies more than we ever did before; we flip open our journals and scribble, we power on our computers and clack away. Dust off those novels that are hidden in your desk drawers!

National Novel Writing Month is here!

For those who are new to the month-long writing fest, here’s the basic rule: write 50,000 words by December 1st. (It’s basically the size of a novella, or small novel.)

Here are my personal goals:
1. Accomplish editing my novel beyond chapter 7.
2. Churn out 50,000 words for the latter chapters.
3. RULE at managing my time; fit in some amount of writing every day!

These are the things I have been needing to work on most with my novel. I need to get my butt in my chair, every single day, and finish this storyline! It’s so strong in my mind, I need it strong on paper now!

By God, I am going to do this!

Good luck to all writers participating in NaNoWriMo this month, whether through the website or by yourselves! (Website is here, for those interested: NaNoWriMo.com )

Comment below what you’ll be working on this month!

It’s Wednesday, Sammy!

…well, okay, Wednesday night. (12AM still counts, right?)

Happy March, guys and dolls! I will tell you: it’s been a wild couple of months here at the Mortimer house thus far in 2016! Not everything has been smooth sailing; it’s certainly been busy at times, even when getting to my computer (hence my two weeks of hiatus last month). However, like in Supernatural’s Mystery Spot, it seems like I’ve finally jumped out of a Groundhog’s Day time loop and am back in action!

Last week, I redesigned my social outlets; my focus being a new author bio,

“Hi there! My name’s Katie L. Mortimer. Welcome to my website!
I’m a pro-author-in-progress who has always had a passion for storytelling, whatever form that may come in. I’m a third generation movie geek and an active cultural explorer. Professionally, I’m a graduate of Otterbein University (with a B.A. in Creative Writing) and I’ve been published in Fangirlish.com, Wooster Weekly News, and Otterbein University’s Fall 2011 Quiz and Quill literary magazine.
Some of my favorite tales (or “fandoms”) range from Welcome to Night Vale, Supernatural, and The Walking Dead to Castle, Lord of the Rings, Marvel, and The Ghost and Mrs. Muir. I have a fairly successful Transformers fanfic out, entitled “All That We Need In Our Lives” and am currently completing my first YA novel, The Moonlit Path.
I’m always looking for new ways to create; and to help others with their own imaginings. So take a look around, geek out with me, and subscribe to my blog to keep up to date with my misadventures! Thanks for stopping by!”

This week, I’ve been hard at work on my novel and keeping up my social media promotions. I released my newest Media Mondays episode about the Oscars:

In short, I talk about the themes that presented themselves at the Academy Awards this past Sunday: diversity, awareness, and making a difference. Every actor, writer, singer, director–even The Academy President–had something to say about a controversial issue; whether it was rape victims in a collegiate setting or being more aware about climate change. I agreed with most of these issues: it a good thing to reevaluate ourselves and change, for the better. So let’s start! Let’s be our best selves!

I also mentioned TV shows that were airing their finales (Agent Carter and Downton Abbey) and premieres (Gotham, OUAT, and Quantico) this week. Man, it’s a shifty one!

I’m definitely aiming to keep my Media Mondays, blog posts, and fanfic releases out on time. Life is still challenging, but I’m pleased to have time to work on the things I love to do. I hope you guys and gals are enjoying what I’m putting out there; there’s sure to be more content to come!

As per usual, however, I’m most excited for you all to read my novel series, which is the priority in my crafting. God, I’m so proud of it.

Have a great week guys! I’ll catch you later!
