Lucifer Canceled?!

I CANNOT BELIEVE IT!! Fox’s Lucifer has been canceled!

giphy (2)

WHY? WHY??!

PaRdON my frENCH but–

but-why-gif-21.gif

I don’t even know how networks can decide these kinds of things; last time I checked Lucifer was doing pretty well and had a very strong fan base. What on God’s green Earth drove Fox’s executives to cut one of the most popular shows on TV? AGH!

I mean, yeah, I will admit that there were times where I had a “Really? You’re doing this writers?” reaction to the show’s plot, but they bounced back! And it was never anything that warranted cancellation!!

I–I don’t know. I’m praying that the show gets picked up by another network. This is absolutely heartbreaking, shocking, and I DON’T LIKE IT!

I swear. I don’t even know how or why TV networks have been canceling popular shows, but, seriously guys: it needs to stop!

… I’m just going to sit here and contemplate life.

And write. Yes.

And pray because I need my beloved Devil in my life!

Of further note, I just caught wind of this happening: “Canceled ‘Lucifer’ Producers, Cast Raise Hell on Social Media”

Officially count me in! #SaveLucifer! (Hence this brief blog post.)

Ghost Hunters S11 Premiere Tonight!

YES! It’s August! One more month of grueling hot weather and–hopefully–a crisp autumnal bliss will sweep over Ohio. Enough of the 90 degree weather! Good grief, I want my spookiness, 5PM sunsets, love sleeves, and hot drinks!

giphy.gif

All in due time, though. All in due time. Must. Be. Patient!

Truthfully I’m not ready to revel in fall just yet. (Says the girl listening to Pandora’s Halloween radio whilst writing this!) I have two more excursions this summer. After those I can settle down, work on my writing projects (including this dear blog), and soak in the 40-60 degrees! It’s honestly been a hard summer; not solely with this borderline drought weather but with personal issues themselves. I’m looking forward to the season change and with that, maybe, I’ll get some time to work. One can only hope!

On that note, Fall TV shows are going to start up again! YAY! I have missed my evening TV rituals!

It all starts tonight with the season 11 Ghost Hunters premiere! Catch it on SyFy @ 9PM (ET)!

And guess where the location is? Cleveland! My own back yard! YES! I’m definitely adding this location to my list!

200

Unfortunately, it was announced a few weeks back that this would be the final GH season airing on SyFy. Last I heard the show wasn’t cancelled, but TAPS (The Atlantic Paranormal Society) were just shopping for a different network to work with.

Honestly, if you all haven’t watched Ghost Hunters yet, you should! You don’t have to start at season 1, you can just pop on SyFy when the clock rings 9PM!

TAPS is honestly the best group out there in the paranormal media mainstream. They don’t embellish evidence, they don’t provoke entities, and their main aim is to help people with paranormal problems… as well as continue to develop the paranormal field. Furthermore they are the kindest people you will ever meet! I’ve been to five Ideal Events now–I’ve probably met Steve, Tango, and Dustin four times each–and these people are amazing, plain and simple! You get to interact with them and learn investigation techniques; no stage vs audience, just the TAPS crew (plus other celebs) and fans hanging out in a haunted location!

Side note: Ohio State Reformatory back in May was, quite frankly, the best experience I’ve had thus far at an event! But more on that in another post!

Let me just say: Dustin Pari is a joyous rainbow– a Steel Unicorn gift from God! At his events, his motivational lectures are soul inspiring, as well as hilarious, and will leave you with a smile!  Go follow him on Twitter to see what I mean! Bonus: he is one of the few celebs that makes it a point to respond to as many people as possible!

All righty paranormal enthusiasts, I’ve said my two cents on one of my favorite shows and am off to do some other writings before Ghost Hunters begins! I’ll see you in the next post soon!

REMEMBER: Ghost Hunters. SyFy. 9PM (ET). GO WATCH!

Deadpool Partay + Castle RETURNS!

Earlier this evening I watched the Super Bowl Halftime with my family. OMG, being a long-time Coldplay fan, it was plain spectacular! The band (with Beyonce and Bruno Mars) did a phenomenal performance that was also aesthetically pleasing. Hey, I mean, that’s what I expect from one of my favorite musicians; their concerts are always so… just… awesome. And the Super Bowl gave every audience member, near and far, that sense.

This week on Promos & Trailers (P&T) is another week where things are just continuing, TV show wise–EXCEPT Castle will be back on Mondays at 10P (ET)! I’m also excited to see the movies that premiere this Valentine’s Day weekend. I mean, come on guys: Deadpool is the ultimate date movie (*wink*)

Movies:

Deadpool
Honestly, I don’t know much about Deadpool canon, beyond random posts on Tumblr with him hanging with Spidey and outwitting bad guys in an extremely sarcastic nature. However, it was love at first sight. And I am definitely headed to this movie this weekend. Plus, he’s Marvel. And I will always go to a new Marvel movie. Always.

Genre: Action-Adventure
Rating: R
Director: Tim Miller
Cast: Ryan Reynolds, Gina Carano, Morena Baccarin, T.J. Miller, Ed Skrein
Plot: Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds) is a former Special Forces operative who now works as a mercenary. His world comes crashing down when the evil Ajax (Ed Skrein) tortures, disfigures and transforms him into Deadpool. The rogue experiment leaves Deadpool with accelerated healing powers and a twisted sense of humor. With help from mutant allies Negasonic Teenage Warhead (Brianna Hildebrand) and Colossus (Stefan Kapicic), Deadpool uses his new skills to hunt down the man who nearly destroyed his life.

Zoolander 2
Oh lord. I was practically raised on Zoolander so there’s no doubt in my mind: I’m going. I have to visit my lifelong friends: Derek Zoolander and Hansel. (Hansel’s my faaaave…*hugs*) Bonus points: Ben Stiller directed Zoolander 2. Ever since I watched Secret Life of Walter Mitty (one of my favorite movies of all time that he directed), I will always go see a Ben Stiller-directed movie.

Genre: Comedy
Rating: PG-13
Director: Ben Stiller
Cast: Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson, Penelope Cruz, Will Ferrell, Kristen Wiig.
Plot: Models Derek Zoolander (Ben Stiller) and Hansel (Owen Wilson) must stop a conspiracy to kill the world’s most beautiful people.

Downton Abbey @9P – PBS (ET)
Well, good news, friends, is that Lord Grantham is alive and well! Yes, we’re still on the drama train (as with every Downton episode) but at least he didn’t die. That, absolutely, would’ve been crushing. Hope he’s out of the clear. Also I’m beginning to feel sympathy for Barrow… which is… understandable… but weird.

Mercy Street @ 10P – PBS(ET)
Now this is a show I haven’t mentioned before but is due for a recommendation. Mom and I have been watching it for a few weeks now and each time it keeps getting better and better. For any of you history buffs out there who love Civil War era (especially Union vs Confederate drama with some slavery themes mixed in), it’s definitely a good show to check out. Also it’s based off of actual events and diary accounts of what went on inside this Union hospital.

CASTLE!!! @10P – ABC (ET)
Ahhhh! You guys! Castle is finally back! This is the TV show I am most excited about this week. I always love watching what new antics Caskett gets into (especially Rick since I aim to have a similar writing career as him–that and we’re personality twins). But OMG Castle fans! I’m so excited to see our beloved couple back together again! AHH!

Supernatural @ 9P – CW (ET)
I mean, yeah, let’s face it guys and dolls, I’m a Hunter through and through. So Supernatural’s going to be on each Promos & Trailers post. I look forward to it every week. This week’s promo cracks me up though. Things are getting pretty hot and heavy for the boys this Valentine’s day (*wink*)

Criminal Minds @ 9P (ET) – CBS

Whoa… just whoa… so I just came across this article when looking into 11×14’s “Hostage.” Apparently the BAU hunts down a man who is kidnapping little girls, and the episode itself is based off of the kidnappings that took place in Cleveland — it especially reflects the story of Amanda Berry and Ariel Castro. Well, I mean, the episodes of Criminal Minds are all based on true stories, in some form or another, so it’s no wonder this story was going to come up. Just… wow though. I mean, that case was all the news stations here in Northeast Ohio. So I’m curious to see how the story compares, and how this episode is. Kids in horror stories are creepy as hell.

New TV Show Obession: TWD!

My opinion of The Walking Dead? Wow. Just wow.

A few weeks ago mom and I were stuck in the house, sick with terrible chest colds. I had caught up with all of my TV shows, finished reading Welcome to Night Vale: The Novel (which was brilliant and nostalgic and–ahhh feels!), and was blazing a trail through the Crimson Peak novel. Soon, I was looking for something new to watch. And what was already on my Amazon video account? The Walking Dead.

I had started watching season one a year or two ago (when I was also sick) but stopped the show mainly because I got better and distracted with other things. So, this time around I started TWD at the end of season one… and down the rabbit hole I went.

Over the last three weeks, I’ve binged seasons one through six and am now on my way to watching Fear The Walking Dead (the prequel). I’ve gone from casual interest to mild anticipation to complete fangirl. And for the past couple days, I really wondered: “Why? Why am I so obsessed with this show?” I mean, yeah, Daryl’s my favorite character; he’s a complete badass, yet has a soft, meaningful side. Rick is a pretty strong leader: he makes hard choices, is a great dad, and has a spectacularly precise aim (also he looks like my brother Donnie and shares his name with my brother Rick).

Still, why was I almost drooling over my laptop at the merest possibility of news about the show? Why was I reading fanfic after fanfic, into the early, early morning? I’m not usually a fan of zombies, and am becoming increasingly picky when it comes to post-apocalyptic storylines. But here I was, obsessed with The Walking Dead.

The answers clicked as I explained the show to mom over eggs, biscuits, and coffee this morning. First, the show is realistic: when you feel a character is going to die, they probably will die. As a fan of some action movies (*cough* Transformers *cough*), I do like watching the stunts characters pull. However, I also know that said daredevil feats, if applied to real life, would probably end in death. TWD has a way of putting you on edge, making you mentally plead: “Oh no, they certainly wouldn’t kill this character! He’s a good man and has to stick around for his family!” And then, with one clean stroke, the character’s gone.

(Sidenote, TWD is almost opposite of Supernatural with their deaths: characters that die typically stay dead. Although both TV shows are well-written, this is an interesting, fresh, draw to AMC’s hit.) TWD, furthermore, deals with harsh truths. At one point, early in the show, a character becomes pregnant and she actually considers aborting the baby due to the terrifying world they now live in. I found myself relating. Even though I would never choose to abort a baby, I could honestly see myself considering it just as she did, if I were in a post-apocalyptic world myself.

That brings me to the second reason why I love The Walking Dead: the characters are well written. They’re complex. Grey. There is no clear division between right and wrong, black or white, good vs evil. Even with season three’s villain, The Governor, who wrecked so much havoc on Rick and his group, I didn’t 100% hate him because he was relatable. He wanted his zombified daughter to be cured with every fiber of his being that when Michonne killed her, he literally went insane. Again, I could see the same happening to me if I was in a similar situation.

Everyone has a story, everyone has a darkness to them. Even Daryl had his moments when I was cursing him. Especially in 4×12’s “Still” when he drunkenly raged at Beth. His character is one of the few I am actively excited to see develop. In season 1 he started as a stereotypical hillbilly; a younger child in the shadow of his asshole big brother, Merle. When Merle disappeared from the show, Daryl connected with the group he was with and became a stronger, courageous hero with a messed-up past. He’s even been a great leader at times when Rick was unable to carry everyone due to his mental anguish. Daryl is a loner but a loyal companion and if I ever find myself in a zombie apocalypse, I hope he’s right by my side.

(Here’s hoping I won’t though.)

Check out one of my favorite Daryl scenes:

Daryl vs Tank:

All in all, I fully suggest watching The Walking Dead. It has kickass action sequences, dramatic moments that will melt a cold heart, and a great, devoted cast, crew, and fanbase that, I hope, will keep going for years to come. Robert Kirkman, author of TWD comics, just… wow. I honestly hope to create something as great as this myself. Bravo!

For further Walking Dead ambiance, I think this fan video (not mine) best explains the atmosphere of the show:

SPN 11×10 Promo: “The Devil in the Details”

It’s a new year; new chances, new changes, new adventures in blogging… and an all new Supernatural tonight! Ahh! I’m so excited!

First of all, I love the show to death (and always will). Second, at the expense of Sam’s mental trauma, I am truly delighted to see Mark Pellegrino continue to play Lucifer in a second episode. He is so good as Lucifer. Just–ahh–too good, even considering his character’s alignment. (Tee-hee)

So catch the promo here:

This episode looks like it’ll center on Sam’s escape from Luci’s clutches. Dean might beat up Crowley, too, for letting his little bro get sidelined by the Devil… again. Only one question sits in my mind as I prep for tonight’s new episode: “Will Luci be a second Big Bad for season 11 or will Dean get Amara’s help in defeating the Devil (she certainly seems powerful enough to kill him)?”

What are your thoughts about this mid-season return of the Devil? What are your predictions, Hunters? Comment below to discuss!

Sidenote: Yup! I’m planning on doing more promos and reviews in the future, on various shows and movies, so this post is just the beginning! I’ve also just premiered Media Mondays (a new Youtube series discussing pop culture news and premieres) over on my Youtube channel, check out the video and comment below!

2015 Favorites; 2016 Resolutions

Lord almighty! I cannot believe 2016 is upon us already! Honestly, 2015 was a bit of a challenge for me. I’m happy for the lessons I’ve learned this year, but I would be lying if I wasn’t excited for 2016. I hope for me and my family that it is a good year; it seems the recent years have been a bit of a challenge for us. I’m also looking forward to finally accomplishing some goals in 2016, but more on that later.

First, a bit of fun. Below, I’ve compiled a list of my favorite movies, music, books, and TV shows of 2015. Not all of them were released in 2015, but I encountered them this year.

Here we go!

giphy

Favorite movie: (A TIE!) Jurassic World and No Escape.

2015 was a year of nostalgia: Star Wars launched a new trilogy, The Hunger Games ended, and Jurassic Park’s reboot, for me, started it all. I was never a huge fan of dinosaurs and Jurassic Park wasn’t a series I was entirely devoted to until recently. Frankly, I was more loyal to the classic adventures I grew up with (Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and James Bond). However, to pay tribute to the great Steven Spielberg, I decided to go to the reboot.

I. Was. Not. Disappointed!

What especially caught my attention was Chris Pratt’s devotion to his Indiana-Jones-like-dinosaur-trainer: a character who was full of heart but a total “badass” (as one of the nephews put it).

Whether you’re a Jurassic Park fan or not, I strongly encourage you to see Jurassic World. The plot is well done, the action is gripping, and the nostalgia is purely palpable.

Speaking of badass movies, No Escape was probably my most favorite film of 2015. When I first watched the trailers, I thought I’d pass on the movie. However, what got me into the theaters was Owen Wilson; it was a first to see him in a serious, action-packed role (vs a comedy like Zoolander) and I wanted to see how well he did. I will tell you: he did not disappoint in the least!

Furthermore, No Escape brings up an issue that not everyone thinks about: monopoly in a third-world country. The cause of the uprising in the unnamed South-East Asia country is, put plainly, a first-world country taking control of their resources. Owen Wilson is unknowingly a part of this takeover and he puts his family in the center of it.

No Escape is certainly action-packed and very violent, as an uprising would be. The pace of the plot is wonderful: fast enough to keep the heart pounding, but it slows down at the appropriate points when Owen Wilson discovers exactly what his employers have been up to. I definitely suggest seeing it.

Favorite song: Lost Stars, sung by Adam Levine.

Lost Stars is an original song found in the movie Begin Again with Kiera Knightley and Mark Ruffalo. It was nominated in the 2015 Academy Awards for Best Original Song, which was well deserved (however, it did lose to Glory). The lyrics of the song are poetic and entirely soul-felt. I doubt there is a person in the world who wouldn’t identify with the story it weaves.

The chorus alone gives me chills as the song builds in its ballad:

“And God, tell us the reason youth is wasted on the young.
It’s hunting season and the lambs are on the run,
Searching for meaning.
But are we all lost stars trying to light up the dark?”

Another astounding thing: this song stands apart. It complements Begin Again, but it’s a song you can put your own meaning, your own story to. It’s universal.

Favorite book: Welcome to Night Vale

Oh, Night Vale. Ever since I started listening to the famous podcast, around two years ago, my love for Joseph Fink and Jeffrey Cranor’s “quiet desert community” has grown. I was SO FLIPPING EXCITED to delve into their novel that expanded beyond Cecil’s narration. What’s even better is how the podcast mentions the events of the novel here and there, only being blunt about its existence in the novel excerpt clip above. (I think a few episodes ago Cecil mentioned “that King City fiasco.”)

God, Night Vale will always be one of my most favorite works of creation EVER. AND THEY’RE COMING OUT WITH THREE BOOKS NEXT YEAR!! AHH!

*cough* Anyways–

Favorite TV shows: Supernatural and Expedition Unknown
Ok. Yes. I couldn’t let the new year begin without mentioned my TWO MOST FAVORITE TV SHOWS!! (Seriously. Go check out my Tumblr: Supernatural is almost all I reblog; and I’m always fangirling over Josh Gates in my various social platforms.)

Supernatural has, and always will be, my top favorite show. There’s a reason why it’s currently airing season 11. For most people, it has to do with the brotherly relationship between Sam and Dean Winchester. However, while I do love the Winchester brothers, they aren’t my favorite characters. Castiel, Gabriel, Lucifer, and Balthazar are. In short, I love how they weave known mythology into the show and put twists on it. Especially ever since season 4, I’ve absolutely adored the angel mythology. Supernatural is the only medium that writes angels the way I believe they should be written (except for the “angels are dicks” thing, because, let’s face it: they aren’t).

I’ve especially loved how season 11 is feeling a lot like season 5. They’re focusing on Biblical mythology again and are bringing back well-loved characters for cameos (Lucifer just appeared in the most recent episode: “O Brother, Where Art Thou?” EEK!)

My second favorite TV show has to be Expedition Unknown. I’m a legend junkie with a passion for traveling and exploring cultures. However, I do like where I live… and I don’t want to travel nearly as much as Josh Gates does. Frankly, two-five trips a year will do me good.

But I love seeing what new adventures Josh Gates gets himself into. From searching for Amelia Earhart’s remains to investigating the True Cross of Christ, Josh Gates is always bringing new things to talk about on his show. He brings us along as he rock climbs, scuba dives, and crawls through caves.

In May this year, I met him for the second time and it’s only made me more adamant to watch his show. He is kind-hearted, brave, a joker, and so passionate about his job. Literally, it’s like he’s our Universe’s Indiana Jones.

He’s my role model… and I don’t think I’ll ever stop watching Expedition Unknown.

So that’s my list of 2015 favorites. Honestly, my head is kind of buzzing right now from the processing overload! But my Goodbye to 2015 post isn’t complete until I divulge in my 2016 resolutions. After all, it’s traditional to have goals for the new year, not to mention a good thing to do to keep procrastination at bay.

My plans for 2016 remain the same as they have for the past few years:

  1. Lose 50 pounds; feel healthy and capable of anything!
  2. Finish my first novel and get it put out into the world.

However, I do have goals for my social media profiles: I would like to keep to a schedule. Update my blog weekly, my Youtube videos every two weeks, and post to my Facebook page daily. Especially concerning the content of this blog, I would love to write more reviews; consider this 2015 recap the beginning of said reviews!

So, have a Happy New Year duckies. Say a generous thanks to 2015 and grasp 2016 by the hand — it’s almost here!

SUPERNATURAL IS BACK BABY!

Guys! Guys! It’s here! Oh my Chuck, IT. IS. HERE!!

giphy

Supernatural’s 11th season premiered last Wednesday — and, boy, is the show as rocking as ever!

I mean, I will admit since season 5 the show hasn’t held me like it did. Even if there were some pretty intense moments. However, season 11 looks like it may be going back to the old routes: a massively scary boss that seems impossible to beat, Sam and Dean reevaluating their tactics (and actually talking!), Team Free Will pushed to the edge, the world at risk.

Yes we’ve had those themes before. But, frankly, the Leviathan and Purgatory arcs didn’t hold my attention quite like Lucifer. (Me, the angel fangirl. Of course that would be my favorite season!)

I’m looking forward to what they’ll be doing. [Slight spoiler] but they’ve been referencing the archangels here and there, both in 10’s finale and 11’s premiere. Dare I say it? We might be seeing Gabe, Luci, and Michael again! Maybe they’ll be in multiple episodes? Maybe Adam will finally escape The Cage?

Ok. That’s a spoiler-free as I can make this post. It’s a quickie, too.

I’m excited to see what the show does this season. There’s a lot at stake for Team Free Will. Even in the first episode was it intense. Jeeez. *bites nails*

Catch the promo for 11×2:

And catch Season 11’s trailer:
